As the umbrella organization for the many artists and arts associations of southwest Florida, the alliance’s mission is to facilitate and nurture the creation, development, promotion and education of arts and culture in our community.
The Director of Development is responsible for developing and overseeing a comprehensive development plan including the annual signature fundraising event, numerous “giving plans”, sponsorship programs, etc. and integrating these programs with the Alliance’s public relations activities.
The successful candidate will be a dynamic individual with excellent written, verbal and computer skills, and with significant experience in either development or marketing and sales.

Publicity Director
ORGANIZATION: Alliance for the Arts LOCATION: Lee County, Florida
TYPE: Full Time DEADLINE FOR APPLICATION: August 1, 2008
Position Description:
The Publicity Director reports to the Executive Director and is responsible for overseeing all publicity and marketing efforts at the Alliance for the Arts, the State-designated Local Arts Agency for Lee County. Primary duties include, but are not limited to, developing and sending press releases, leading marketing efforts, design of printed materials, website maintenance, and developing and maintaining all media relationships as well as relationships with arts marketers within the community.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelors Degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, or a related field
- Minimum 2 years of PR or related experience, which should include writing
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage, on deadline, multiple projects at the same time
- Ability to work with the print and broadcast media
- Ability to work well with all levels of staff and volunteers
- Availability beyond normal scheduled hours for events
- Computer skills in Microsoft Office programs, Dreamweaver, and Adobe InDesign and Photoshop
Desired Qualifications:
- 3-5 years Public/Media Relations experience
- Web administration and/or design experience
- Not-for-profit work experience
- Working knowledge of Graphic Design/Advertising design experience
- A strong desire to work within an artistic, team-based atmosphere
- Knowledge of local arts, media, and social community
- Positive, outgoing, friendly attitude with demonstrated record of proactive and strategic thinking
Specific Responsibilities:
- Pursue and develop strong media contacts and other social relationships within the community
- Publicize Alliance exhibitions, receptions, concerts, festivals, and special events via media press releases, media relations, direct mail and other venues. Respond to media requests.
- Lead Marketing efforts; branding, brainstorming, event/project development
- Produce (including design, layout proofing, and working with printer) the following:
- Exhibitions Invitations, Newsletters, Calls to artists, Ad materials, Annual Report, etc.
- Coordinate and/or maintain updates to the Alliance website including new web pages as needed
- Write, design, and prepare for distribution of email newsletters and bulletins (Constant Contact)
- Maintain media and other email-based contact lists
- Coordinate and update the Arts and Attractions Map as needed
- Create, obtain, and follow up on media ad sponsorship opportunities
- Archive press clippings and photographs; Photograph (or coordinate photography) of Alliance Events
- Be a member of and attend FPRA meetings
- Direct Arts Coalition meetings and develop and coordinate plans and projects
- Chair Angels of the Arts and Serve as a committee member for marketing/PR efforts of Art Royale
- Other duties as determined by the Executive Director
