The Alliance for the Arts Leaps into Dance!
The Alliance for the Arts announces its newest program, geared toward encouraging and showcasing creative movement, Dance Alliance. A kick off party, fondly dubbed the “Battement Bash,” was held on Sunday, May 6, 2007. Here, area dance instructors got the first glimpse of this exciting new opportunity!
This three day workshop for instructors and students will feature keynote speakers, accomplished and respected dance instructors, and a finale performance that will feature choreography developed by talented young dancers.
Who: Dance Alliance, the newest program of the Alliance for the Arts, will host guest instructors:
- Janice Barringer, Co-Author of the Pointe Book and Pointe Book Second Edition who will teach classes in Ballet and Pointe.
- John Parks- Assistant Professor of Dance at USF teaching classes in Jazz, Modern and African.
Plus more world-famous instructors to be announced!
What: A three day workshop for instructors and students with reception, key-note speaker, and finale performance. The finale performance is a special opportunity for student chorographers. In order for students to showcase their pieces in the Student Choreography Performance they will need to send in a video tape of their STUDENT CHOREOGRAPHY ONLY to the Arts Alliance prior to the registration deadline (TBA). THIS IS NOT A COMPETITION and the performance will not be judged. NO SOLOS- only duos, trios, and small groups please.
When: September 20-22, 2007
Where: Alliance for the Arts, Ft. Myers, and Cypress Lake High School, Ft. Myers
Why: Because dance is Art! To showcase our local young artists and become a community of dancers!

Cost: Early bird registration by August 17 is $75 per student. All registrations after that date are $100. The registration price covers classes, speaker reception, banquet and souvenir T-shirt.
