Mixed Media Painting with Shirley Hales

Bring your watercolors, acrylic paints, pastels, colored pencils, charcoal, ink or any painting medium to produce a mixed media painting of your choice.  You may design your piece of art or choose from suggested designs provided by the instructor. Some materials to embellish your painting will be provided but you are encouraged to bring your own fabric, buttons, paper, ribbon or whatever works best for your individual needs. The possibilities are endless! Following a brief introduction to the art of mixed media, Shirley will help you design and select materials to complete a small (8×10 or 11×14) mixed media painting.

Supply List

• Brushes – Various sizes and shapes (flat and round) for painting and old brushes for applying adhesive. Palette knives for spreading paint and creating texture if desired
• A variety of paint mediums: watercolor, acrylic, pastel, charcoal, ink, gouache, colored pencils. Embellishments: Paper, fabric, newsprint, photos, string, ribbon, yarn, buttons, etc.
• Adhesive will be provided but feel free to bring your own gesso, mod podge or other similar adhesive.
• Palette Colors – Choose to complement your selected design.  Suggestions are:
  • Alizarin Crimson
  • Burnt Sienna
  • Cadmium Red
  • New Gamboge or Yellow Ochre
  • Cadmium Yellow
  • French Ultramarine Blue or Cobalt Blue

  • Canvas or 300 lb or heavier paper
