Event details

Sumi-e means “ink picture” in Japanese and is composed of four basic strokes. These four strokes are said to represent all the shapes and forms in the universe. They are called the four gentlemen: Bamboo, Wild Orchid, Chrysanthemum, and Plum Blossom. Many impressionists studied sumi-e including Mary Cassatt, Toulouse Lautrec and Vincent Van Gogh. In this class you will learn to use simple brush strokes to create beautiful serene images. Join us in creating watercolor paintings that incorporate oriental techniques, materials and an impressionistic spirit.
