Fantasy Florals and Fronds with Shirley Hales

Are you ready to try a different way of painting florals and fronds? This workshop will focus on unique ways to transform ordinary leaves and stems into fantasy florals and fronds utilizing textural effects, interesting complementary color selections and color mixing schemes. There will be instructor demonstration with ample time for individual hands-on practice prior to completing an 8×10 or 11×14 painting in the medium of their choice. Participants may supply their own reference image or paint from instructor provided reference photos.

Supply List

•  Brushes – A variety of sizes and shapes (flat and round)
• Paints (watercolor, acrylic, oil or pastel)
  • Basic Palette Colors:
    • Alizarin Crimson
    • Burnt Sienna
    • Rose Madder (or other transparent rose)
    • New Gamboge or Yellow Ochre
    • Cadmium Yellow
    • French Ultramarine Blue or Cobalt Blue
    • Cerulean Blue
    • Indigo
    • Viridian

• Misc:
  • Canvas or 140 lb or heavier paper.
  • Bring extra for practice and color mixing.
  • Container for water
  • paper towels
  • soft pencil for sketching
  • kneaded eraser (if sketching with pencil),
  • old toothbrush,
  • natural sponge
  • salt (for watercolor)
  • palette for mixing paint
  • Support board recommended for paper.
