PalmArt Playshop – Bracelets and PalmHearts for Your Sweethearts (Ages 12+)
Learn how to make beautiful, useful, and durable stuff using natural and recycled materials that might be in your own backyard. Writer and teacher Shawn Holiday will conduct monthly playshops for making baskets, bracelets, sun kissed coasters, kitchen tools, freedom coolers, smoking woods, custom paper notes, table decorations and more. These unique workshop will take participants on a journey of discovery, humor, and insight towards creativity and sustainability.
“Instead of heading to the big box, people can venture into their yards and gather the things needed to create authentic gifts or useful items they don’t have to purchase,” says Holiday, who has been teaching at the Alliance since 1999. “We will conjure a time when we made our own decorations and tools in a family friendly atmosphere that is fun and engaging. All the materials are provided but people are invited to bring their own supplies to incorporate into original creations that will be cherished for years.”
Holiday is known for installing Peace Wreaths along McGregor Boulevard annually since 11/11/11 (in honor of Veterans Day), as well as Charlie lanterns, guerilla gardens and spontaneous art projects throughout the area. He rescues items from the curb and gives them a second life as art objects or practical items with the only investment being time.
