Saturday, May 12

6 p.m. in the gallery: Words wanted! Share your work at our Poetry Open Mic Night. Southwest Florida poets are invited to share their work at an open mic evening designed to bring together different generations, styles and approaches to poetry.

The event is free to attend and open to poets of all ages and to those who simply enjoy soaking up spoken word, but a $5 suggested donation is encouraged to support affordable programming. Poets must share original work.

8 p.m. in the theatre:

A Raisin in the Sun by Lorraine Hansberry

A fateful life insurance policy becomes a catalyst that will forever transform the lives of a family living on the South Side of Chicago, as they consider buying a house on the white side of town. Their shared dream of a better life collides with conflicting aspirations, betrayal and racism in this timeless production.

About the SoCo Cultural District

The SoCo cultural district is a burgeoning partnership of arts, cultural and business organizations bordered by Colonial and McGregor boulevards. SoCo, which is short for “south of Colonial,” was originally introduced in the 1990s as a bohemian village of upcoming artists. Today, SoCo is being reestablished as the southwest Florida’s newest arts and cultural district.
