A Toast to Tenacity
Honoring the past. Shaping the future.
Presented by the Progressive Women of Southwest Florida.
Bring your family (youth 12 and over) and celebrate with us as we honor the courageous women (and some men!) behind the passage of the 19th Amendment, which guaranteed women the right to vote.
98 years ago, on August 26, 1920, suffragists across the nation raised a glass of grape juice – since Prohibition was in effect, they skipped the more potent stuff – to honor the amendment.
And we’ll do the same, with our own grape juice toast and a program honoring both the famous and not-so-well known suffragists.
Join us to learn about the tenacious women from diverse backgrounds who persisted for more than 70 years – even went to prison and endured other terrible hardships – until their basic right to vote was enacted into law.
Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Susan B. Anthony were not alone in their commitment to gender equality. And neither are we!
Meet The Honorable Tommy Doyle, Supervisor of Elections, Lee County.
Enjoy wine and cheese in the gallery after the Program.
Toast to Tenacity is sponsored by Vision 2020, the Fort Myers Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., and Progressive Women of Southwest Florida.
An RSVP is required.
