Event details

This introductory workshop will provide the basics for beginner watercolorists, and those with some prior experience who feel they need a refresher” course before moving on to the next level.  Some drawing experience is helpful but not essential.  The workshop will include instructional lecture time with ample “hands on” instructor assistance.  This workshop is the first in a series of progressively more advanced sessions to be held in the coming months.  During the workshop students will:

  • Learn about the different types of brushes and how to use them to achieve the desired effect
  • Understand the various types of watercolor paper
  • Learn how to prepare and “stretch” 140 lb paper
  • Learn the importance of basic drawing skills
  • Mix colors to achieve the desired outcome
  • Understand the color wheel and how to use analogous and complementary colors to enhance a painting
  • Understand the concept of “the rule of thirds” and finding a “focal point”
  • Produce a simple 11×14” watercolor painting
