What is Your Mask? – Acting Social Workshop (ages 18+)
Investigate identity through ideas, self, and place.
In society we connect through the lens of our diverse identities; who we are, how we were raised, our experiences, our economic status, our contributions. Join us for a 2 – day workshop that combines the arts and social discourse to explore ways to articulate and express our identity while considering how our perception, our sensitivities, and our challenges to acceptance effect how we relate to our space, in society, and with each other. The workshop promises to foster an appreciation of the common and unique experiences that shape our character, our personality, our distinctiveness, and the essence of our Identity.
Students will view a performance introducing the theme and then participate in a group exercise and group discussion exploring race, stereotyping, and privilege. With guidance from the facilitators, the participants will then collaborate to create an artistic demonstration of their exploration of Identity. Family and friends are invited to attend the demonstration on the second day of the workshop and participate in the talk-back activity.
Facilitators: Sonya McCarter, Derek Lively, Steve Hooper, Jonathan Harrison, and Jarrett Eady
Saturday workshop hours are 1:00 – 4:00PM. Sunday hours are 1:00 – 3:30PM with the performance and talk-back beginning at 2:30PM.
Supply list: Materials to be supplied by the Alliance for the Arts.
