Herb Sklar

Born and raised in New York, Herb Sklar graduated from the High School of Art and Design in Manhattan and the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn. He worked in Manhattan for major advertising agencies as an art director and creative director for ten years. He then started his own advertising agency. Herb won more than 50 awards in juried competitions for outstanding concepts and in both print and television media.

During his career, he was an avid photographer and his black and white images have appeared in a one-man show at the Berkshire Museum in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. His work has also appeared in galleries and juried shows such as the National Artists Alliance in New York, the International Institute of Photography in Anchorage, Alaska, and the Bridge Gallery in Westchester, New York. He’s had a nine page portfolio published in Peterson’s photographic called “Fluid Light”, two images in the American Photographer, four images in Photophile and other publications such as the Lake Superior Review and Nit and Wit.

Herb was an instructor at the Arts Academy and Edison State College. He has also given seminars on digital photography at the Hutchinson Studio in Punta Gorda, Florida and lectured at the Academy at ShellPoint.

Herb’s paintings have been exhibited in many juried competitions including Salon Internaionl in San Antonio, Texas, The Torpedo Factory in Virginia, and the Visual Arts Center in Punta Gorda. Herb has also been represented by galleries in Florida and Virginia. In addition, two of his portraits have been selected by the Bowles Endowment for Portrait Excellence. He is a member of the Portrait Society of America and the Oil Painters of America.
