Shirley has worked as a professional artist for 17 years. She began her art career in the Washington, DC area before moving to Florida in 2005.
Although proficient in numerous art mediums her medium of choice is watercolor. Shirley’s paintings capture her enjoyment of nature with her passion for artistic realism in a wide range of subjects. Her favorites include landscapes, brilliant sunsets, nautical scenes, and wildlife. Shirley’s award-winning work has been featured in, and on the covers of, major publication, in juried exhibits and is held in private and corporate collections around the world. She has produced watercolor illustrations for a world-wide public relations firm and local businesses.
She also teaches watercolor and acrylic painting on traditional papers, canvas, glass, and wood.
Shirley is the founder and past president of Harbour View Gallery located in Cape Harbour in Cape Coral, Florida. In 2010 she was nominated for the Southwest Florida annual Angels of the Arts, Arts Organization Leader of the Year Award for her creation of the gallery and introduction of the first annual 2010 “Paint the Cape” plein air competition and exhibition. She was one of seven Cape Coral artists selected for the 2013 Allinace of the Arts Annual Artist Studio Tour.
In 2018, she was juried in among 40 selected artists to participate in the prestigious Plein Air Easton Local Color exhibition in Easton, Maryland.
Shirley and her husband Dave reside in Cape Coral, Florida with their cat, Jameson, and maintain a home on Maryland’s Chesapeake Bay.
